Would you Retire from Yourself?

Most of us think of working in a job that pays well, isn’t too difficult, has nice benefits, and you can live with it until retirement.  But is it you?

I’m Best When I’m Me

I am a strong proponent of not just fitting into your livelihood, but fitting your livelihood to yourself.

Maybe I’m just a misfit who hasn’t found a work environment working for others that has lasted. So I’m working for myself, with the intention of doing what inspires me and is inspiring and guiding to my clients. That makes me happy. And the more I fit my purposeful work to me, not just what I’ve been trained to do for people, the more it feeds me. I get energized helping people. I look forward to planning the right approach to best help the person I will be meeting in my next appointment. It’s a joy to know that my contribution of my true self is of benefit to someone else.

Finding your best you might be working for someone else, or it might be taking what you love to do to the next level and creating a business around it.

Waiting to Be Who You Are

We all have talents—a way with certain things or people—and often we keep them as a sideline, or hobby until we have time to do them full-time, which is usually after retirement.

I know it can be scary to be fully dependent on yourself and to have to attract customers to hire you for your skill or come in to your business location. It can take time, and of course, it takes money.

Retirement gives you a reliable income from a pension, savings, investments, etc. that you built up during your work life.  For some, that is ideal. They are still young enough to spend their time on the things they love to do and, if they have a chance to earn a little money at it, all the better.

Connection is Life

I believe that personal connection and purposeful service is why we were placed on Earth. Each of us contributes something to the lives of those around us.

When we share our hobbies, our interests, what deeply touches us; when we help someone to finish a project, or show them how to do something more effectively, we gain in the process, and they do, too.

Employment brings us into contact with others. If we remained solitary, we would never experience others’ true selves. When we touch others’ lives, we allow them to touch ours. Person-to-person, true self-to-true self.

Choose Never to Retire

I think, if you are true to yourself in the employment you choose, why would you want to retire? Perfect employment is truly you. Why would you want to retire from yourself? Be who you truly are. Live your truth, every day, in whatever you choose to do in this world. Whether you choose Me, Incorporated, or Me, Employee, be fully and truly you, and you can’t help but be satisfied at day’s end. Be You.
